Mechanic's Installation Tip: When installing the mechanical seal, never touch the ceramic face with your bare fingers. Oils from your skin can cause "hot spots" that lead to immediate failure. Use a small amount of dish soap as a lubricant for the rubber seat to ensure it slides into the housing without tearing.
